The #DestinationZero challenge

Pitch your climate innovation to us by 14 February 2021. Win £5,000 funding and coaching to bring your idea to life.

#DestinationZero is an innovation challenge for people aged 18 to 35 who want to tackle climate change and make a positive difference to the world.

We’re looking for ideas that will help communities move closer to zero carbon emissions or adapt to the effects of climate change.

How to enter

Share a 60 second video with the hashtag #DestinationZero on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or YouTube.

The deadline is 14 February 2021 at 23.59 UK time.

In the video, please say your first name, your age and where you are from, then pitch your climate innovation idea. Innovations could include new business models, new scientific innovations, community initiatives or climate warning systems.

On 28 February 2021, the selection panel will review the video submissions. Then they will invite 20 participants to provide further information about their innovation idea.

On 16 March 2021, the selection panel will announce 10 successful innovations.

If our selection panel choose your climate innovation, you will receive coaching support and a grant of £5,000 to help you bring your idea to life.

How we judge the competition

Our panel will choose ten innovations based on:

What problem are you trying to solve? (25 per cent of your score)

We’re looking for a clear explanation of the climate change issue your innovation deals with and how this issue is relevant to your own community.

How will your innovation affect climate change? (50 per cent of your score)

We want to hear how your innovation will address the issues you have outlined. We particularly welcome innovations that have a positive effect on women and girls, people from marginalised communities, and other groups most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.

How realistically have you budgeted for your innovation? (25 per cent of your score)

What happens if you’re successful?

You’ll receive:

  • £5,000 financial support for each winning innovation by the end of March 2021
  • coaching sessions between April to August 2021.

If your innovation is at the idea phase, this financial and technical support will help to prototype it. If the innovation has already been tested, the support will help in its implementation.

We’ll ask successful applicants to provide project updates.
